The Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance (NEPA) and Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED) presented Keystone College with a $75,000 Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) grant. The project provides students with the necessary equipment to provide critical skills training in high demand workforce occupations and support entrepreneurial opportunities, especially relative to natural gas extraction, transportation and infrastructure development, information technology and renewable energy. This project was recommended for ARC funding by the NEPA Alliance and the Pennsylvania Office of Appalachian Development.
ARC funding was used for technology, lab and curriculum enhancements that support completion of workforce development training for high demand environmental sciences and project management occupations. Specifically it was used to upgrade information technology infrastructure, computers and lab; purchase computers and software for skills training in GIS, GPR, Remote Sensing, Petrology, Environmental Modeling and Project Management; and support curriculum development and applied study opportunities relative to natural gas industry, watershed management, alternative energy, entrepreneurship, and construction and project management.
