We are pleased to announce the launch of the Northeast Pennsylvania Defense Transition Partnership, a new initiative designed in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED) and the NEPA Partnerships for Regional Economic Performance (PREP) team members. PA DCED Secretary Alan Walker visited the region on October 22 announcing the launch of the program at Gentex Corporation in Simpson, PA.
The initiative is designed to provide support to Department of Defense (DoD) contractors and supply chain vendors to diversify their products and services in the wake of decreased DoD spending and sequestration. The partnership will provide direct support for the development of market diversification plans to create new opportunities and jobs for local businesses who have experienced decreased DoD contracts. Furthermore, the initiative provides support for displaced workers who have been furloughed by Tobyhanna Army Depot and other DoD contractors. The initiative is being funded by $2.9 million grant through the DoD Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA).
We are excited to join forces with DCED on this initiative and to collaborate with the NEPA PREP partners to create new opportunities for job growth and retention for area businesses in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
