The NEPA Alliance held its annual Procurement Technical Assistance Center 2014 Government Contracting Showcase on April 24, 2014 at the Woodlands Inn, Wilkes-Barre, PA.
The one day event was well attended with over 20 exhibitors including representatives from economic development, government agencies, and private businesses. The Showcase attracted over 100 attendees and was deemed to be successful and beneficial by those in attendance.
Jeffrey Box, NEPA President & CEO, opened the event by saying, “There are significant opportunities for local companies to enter into government contracting.” Jeff quantified this by stating, “Over $109 million in revenue within the NEPA seven-county coverage area was reported by NEPA PTAC clients last fiscal year. This translates into approximately 780 jobs supported through government contracting activities.”
Congressman Matt Cartwright (D-Moosic) was the luncheon Keynote Speaker. Cartwright started by asking and answering two questions, “Why do business with the Federal Government? The Federal Government is the largest consumer of goods and services spending over $650 billion annually. Why do we need a PTAC? The PTAC helps you to do business with the Federal Government. They teach you what you need to know and help you to learn the language, master the forms, and understand the system.”
The attendees learned how to conduct and market their business with Federal and State Agencies and Prime Contractors. Educational breakout session topics included: Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Small and Small Diverse Business Programs; Veterans Certification Verification Process and Government Agency Support; Certifications for Women and Minority Business Owners; Northeastern Pennsylvania Financing Panel Discussion; NEPA Alliance 101; and Marketing on a Shoestring Budget.
The NEPA Alliance PTAC is funded by the United States Department of Defense, Appalachian Regional Commission, and the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
