The mission of the Nonprofit & Community Assistance Center is to promote and encourage community development by increasing the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations, enhancing the resource delivery of philanthropic foundations, strengthening the role of the region's cultural and social service sectors and capitalizing upon economic opportunities for the citizenry of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

2. Family Centered Substance Abuse Treatment Grants for Adolescents and their Families

Deadline: March 26, 2006

Despite the availability of effective substance abuse treatment practices for adolescents and their families/primary caregivers (i.e., the individual(s) currently providing care for the adolescent), these practices are not being adequately utilized in the field.  SAMHSA is offering grants for the provision of services to adolescents and their families/primary caregivers using previously proven effective practices that are family centered.  Families/primary caregivers are an integral part of the treatment process and their inclusion increases the likelihood of successful treatment and reintegration of the adolescents into their communities following the period of formalized treatment. 

 

3. MAC Cosmetics AIDS Fund

Eligibility Requirements: Nonprofit Organizations in USA and Canada

Info: Since its creation by M·A·C Cosmetics in 1994, the M·A·C AIDS Fund provides funding to registered nonprofit organizations that support men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS. Grants are typically made to assist with basic needs such as food, clothing and housing; prevention and awareness campaigns; services related to healthcare, social services, medical transportation and recreational activities; and event sponsorships to help raise funds that directly benefit HIV/AIDS organizations. The Fund accepts unsolicited grant proposals from organizations in North America year-round.

When prospecting a funder, always look up their Federal Tax 990 form (downloaded as a PDF) at www.guidestar.org.   The form will provide you with the following information:

  • Past grantees and amounts (You might contact past grantees to get an "inside scoop" on workign with the funder!)

  • Grant Distribution Advisory Board Members (Find out who makes the grant or award decisions)

  • Any restrictions or limitations on awards, such as geographical, fields of interest, etc.

  • Any submission deadlines.
