New Highway Safety Corridor
A new highway safety corridor with doubled traffic fines was announced by officials from PennDOT, Pennsylvania State Police and Focus 81. The designated corridor runs both northbound and southbound from mile markers 173.8 to 161.2, which is between Exit 175 (Pittston/Dupont) and Exit 159 (Nuangola). The area was selected because it is a high-crash, high-speed area. This is the second Highway Safety Corridor within the Focus 81 corridor. The first was established in 2004 to include the area, both northbound and southbound, from mile marker 183 near the River Street Exit 184 to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport and Avoca Exits 178A-178B.
