Prior to joining the Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance, Ryan served under Mayor Christopher A. Doherty as Project Manager for the City of Scranton’s Department of Parks and Recreation. During his time with the Department of Parks and Recreation, Ryan oversaw the construction of two volunteer-built playgrounds in 2004. Ryan’s main responsibilities on the two projects consisted of volunteer recruitment, resource procurement, site readiness, product delivery and the solicitation of donations. Over 1,800 volunteers contributed to the projects which were completed in a two week span. Ryan also assisted on the renovations of Weston Field House located in the Bulls Head Section of Scranton. From 2003 to 2005, the City of Scranton invested $9 million on Phase I and Phase II renovations at Weston Field House. These renovations have helped to triple Weston Field House memberships over the past two years. In the summer of 2006 Ryan organized a Free Summer Basketball Clinic for local youth at Weston Field. Over 150 children received free basketball instruction and training from top area coaches and players. Each participant in the Free Summer Basketball Clinic received a free t-shirt, basketball and lunch which was provided to the campers by the Scranton School District’s Lunch Program. Ryan also spent time each year working on free events sponsored by the Department of Parks and Recreation such as the Punt, Pass and Kick Competition, Wednesday Night Concert Series and the Holiday Light Show at Nay Aug Park.
Before joining the Department of Parks and Recreation, Ryan was Project Coordinator for the City of Scranton’s Office of Economic and Community Development. As a Project Coordinator, Ryan was the point person for the renovations of dilapidated city parks and little leagues under federal and state programs. Through the implementation of streetscape and beautification projects, Ryan assisted in the revitalization of Scranton’s downtown business district.
Over the past 8 years Ryan’s free time has been spent coaching basketball to local youth. Ryan spent 7 years as an assistant coach for Bishop Hannan High School Boys Basketball Team in Scranton, PA. While on the bench for Bishop Hannan Ryan contributed to Bishop Hannan’s PIAA State Championship in 2002 and PIAA State Runner-up in 2006 along with numerous league and district championships. Ryan is the current 8 th Grade Head Coach at St. Paul’s Grade School in Scranton, PA. Ryan graduated from Marywood University with a B.S. in Management and is currently residing in Scranton, PA.
