Scranton Dodge Receives $250,000 in Loan Funds from the Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance
Officials gathered recently to present a check for $250,000 to Scranton Dodge to aid in bringing new life to an abandoned structure. Matt and David Pompey purchased the former Crystal Soda Water Co. at 421 Franklin Avenue, Scranton. They co-own Scranton Dodge Chrysler Jeep and Tunkhannock Auto Mart and plan to convert the new location to a facility for credit processing, parts distribution, reconditioning and repair of vehicles.

Bellemarque, West Hazleton Receives Loan Funds from the Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance (NEPA)
Officials gathered recently to present checks for $200,000 in Small Business First Loan Funds and an ARC/USDA Loan for $105,000 to Nicholas and Alec Marcalus, Bellemarque LLC, a sanitary paper product manufacturing company, West Hazleton for the purchase of machinery and equipment.

Workforce Wayne Receives $53,000 in Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) Grant Funding
Officials gathered recently to present a check for an Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) Grant of $53,000 to Workforce Wayne. The funding will aid Workforce Wayne in getting a Career and Technical Center (CTC) built in the area to train Wayne and Pike County students.

The Commonwealth Medical College Receives a $150,000 ARC Grant

The Commonwealth Medical College has received an ARC grant in the amount of $150,000 for the TCMC Professional Science of Masters program. The intent of this grant is to purchase specialized, technology related equipment for the "Professional Science of Masters" program which has been developed to train students to be technicians or technical specialists in biomedical research. This 21 month program will prepare a workforce for a career path as research scientists for companies in Biotech, Life Sciences and Pharmaceutical companies, as well as academic research labs and will help the development of research and a potential biotech industry in NEPA by creating a trained, available workforce.

Green Seeking - Financing Energy Efficient Projects for Local Governments & Nonprofits

Today’s economic climate has helped foster a new wave of innovative financing programs to assist local governments and nonprofits in implementing energy efficient and renewable energy projects. This seminar, Green Seeking - Financing Energy Efficient Projects for Local Governments & Nonprofits, will highlight loan programs, rebates and grants to implement feasible projects that reduce energy demand, maintenance and improve facility and office functionality, the use of Energy Service Companies (ESCO’s) and the Act 77 Guaranteed Energy Savings Act (GESA) Contract. It is intended for local governments, counties, municipal authorities, schools and nonprofits; however, some of the financing programs will be applicable to businesses.

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance is proud to announce that Dr. Lois Margaret Nora, Interim President and Dean, The Commonwealth Medical College will serve as keynote speaker for the organization’s annual dinner. Dr. Nora also serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Academic Officer of the College.

      The NEPA Alliance Annual Dinner, presented by Pennstar Bank, will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Genetti Hotel & Conference Center, Wilkes-Barre.  A reception, sponsored by PPL, begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the dinner program.

NEPA Alliance to Present its Annual Bringing the World to Northeastern Pennsylvania

NEPA Alliance is pleased to announce its Annual Bringing the World to Northeastern Pennsylvania will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Woodlands Inn, Wilkes-Barre.

      Last year, 35 companies participated in the 12th Annual Bringing the World to Northeastern PA event, resulting in 174 one-on-one meetings with 24 of PA’s Trade Representatives; NEPA Alliance assisted over 100 clients and helped facilitate more than $25 million in export sales; 10 Northeastern PA companies applied for Market Access Grants totaling $15,000.

Nanticoke Government Study Commission (GSC) to Hold Public Hearing on Rough Draft of the Proposed Home Rule Charter
The Nanticoke Government Study Commission (GSC) is conducting a public hearing on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Nanticoke City Hall, 15 E. Ridge Street, Nanticoke on the Rough Draft of the proposed Home Rule Charter. The GSC has been engaged since May 2010 and has studied the existing form of government, interviewed Nanticoke officials, interviewed Home Rule officials from other municipalities and explored alternatives.
